Boxes, A musical
Musical Theater Development
My Role: Composer + Writer
Year Started: 2018
Overview
BOXES is an original musical in its early stages, that I co-wrote with my sister, Lindsay. With an original book, music, and lyrics, this project is a deeply personal exploration of memory, identity, and the stories we leave behind.
Synopsis
Grace, a 24-year-old writer, moves into her first single apartment, and although her current columnist job is not fulfilling her, she was given a large enough promotion to afford it. While unpacking, she discovers a box filled with memorabilia from a previous tenant and quickly becomes sucked into the story of this woman’s life. It takes her on a journey of loss, growth, and forgiveness, as she learns that the past is not all that different from the present.
My Role
As the composer and co-writer of BOXES, I play a crucial role in shaping the music, story, and overall vision of the musical. Here’s how I contribute:
Composer & Lyricist: I wrote the music and collaborated with Lindsay on the lyrics, crafting songs that bring depth and emotion to the narrative.
Music Production: I produced and arranged the demos, overseeing instrumentation, mixing, and mastering to ensure each track reflects the heart of the show.
Story Development: The musical is still in its early stages, with an outline and a few completed songs. I’m actively developing the script and score, bringing BOXES to life one note and lyric at a time.
This journey is just beginning, and I’m excited to see where it leads!
